Steam Revenue Calculator

With the Boxleiter method, we can use the number of reviews a game has to estimate the number of sales. From this, we can calculate the Gross Revenue. By adjusting for discounts and regional pricing, we can then estimate the Net Revenue.

Give the numbers a play – or search by game – and let us know what you think!

FAQ:

Q: How much does Steam take from game sales?

Steam takes a standard cut of 30% of each game sale. For games that earn over $10 million (£8m), the Steam cut is reduced to 25%. For games that earn over $50 million (£40m), the Steam cut is reduced to 20%.

Q: What is the Boxleiter Method?

The Boxleiter Method estimates the number of Steam game units sold by using the number of public Steam Reviews. It assumes that for each Steam Review, there will be between 20 and 60 sales. This number – called the NB number – is an assumption based on data from surveyed Steam developers and publishers. It changes genre-to-genre and year-to-year as different player-personas leave reviews more-or-less often on the games they like. For simplicity, however, the overall average is used to smooth out outliers.
